Electroluminescence is a non-destructive inspection based on the following principle: when a PV cell is subjected to a current, it emits radiation in the infrared range. Using a suitable camera, it is possible to perceive this radiation and thus obtain an image of the elements emitting it. In this way, it is possible to detect fragments or complete cells not participating in the production of current. These “dead” areas appear in black on the photos obtained.
