The IEC or rather the IEC certificates guarantee the quality level of the photovoltaic panels. They are delivered by independent accredited laboratories which pass to the panels a battery of tests and verifications of the product requirements required in the corresponding standards. The compulsory IEC are the 'IEC61215 and 61730 for crystalline panels and IEC61646 for thin films. There are  additional norms to demonstrate the resistance of the modules to specific conditions: Ammonia, Salt spray, Sand projection, PID ...

The ISOs apply to manufacturers and factories, this includes ISO9001 for quality management, ISO14001 for environmental management and OHSAS for the safety of people and goods. Recently, OHSAS18001 has been replaced by ISO45001.
