What is the open circuit voltage (VOC)?

Open circuit means, that the module is not fully connected to an electrical load. So, the open circuit voltage is the electrical potential of the module without a flowing current. The radiation has only a small influence on the open circuit voltage. The voltage depends mainly on the temperature of the cell. The temperature coefficient of the open circuit value can be found on most datasheets. It is negative, so, the highest open circuit voltage will be reached at the lowest temperature possible. With several modules in series the highest possible voltage of the inverter has to be lower than the open circuit voltage of each module multiplied with the number of modules.
